A Labor of Love Birth Services
My name is Tara White and I am West Tennessee’s Friendly Neighborhood Doula. I am a doula, childbirth educator, lactation counselor, P.A.I.L. Advocate and your resource for all things birth.
From a very young age I was fascinated with all things related to pregnancy, labor, and birth. I was the birth-nerd of a child who begged for the pregnant Barbie and then got frustrated when I realized she didn’t come with a comfortable birth environment, a birthing partner, or even extra blankets! I mean, come on, Barbies need positive birth experiences too!
I graduated from Milan High School in 2011 and then from The University of Tennessee at Martin in 2016. It was at UTM that I received my bachelor’s degree in International Studies with a concentration in Women and Children’s Health.
Soon after graduation I began coursework to certify as a birth doula. I trained through DONA International; the world’s first and most respected certifying organization. Immediately I was eager to learn even more, and began studying to become a lactation counselor, pregnancy and infant loss (PAIL) advocate, and childbirth educator. Now, I own and operate A Labor of Love Birth Services, a full-spectrum birth business in Jackson, Tennessee.
I also work full time at a Child Advocacy Center in Jackson, where I feel I am able to contribute to an incredible organization and to serve those most vulnerable in my community.
I spend most of my free time planning my next adventure. I love to travel and spend time outdoors with my four legged friend, June. Whenever I’m not burying my toes into the earth, I’m burying my nose into a good book. I love learning and can’t seem to keep myself away from all of the new and exciting classes that seem to find me.
I believe that birth is the most sacred of all human experiences. It is so much more than the birth of a child, but also the birth of a mother, the birth of a family. I believe that every family has the right to be educated, cared for, and supported in their decisions.
