I’m Maddie and I am the face behind Cradle & Bloom. Unlike most doulas, my passion for pregnancy and birth did not start after having my own children. My passion for doula work started long before I even knew what a doula was, specifically when I was fourteen years old. I had an ever growing fascination with pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. I began learning all that I could about the physical and emotional journey of pregnancy and birth. I read as many birth stories as I could and watched nearly every birth video on youtube, all the while dreaming of being a mother myself one day. I learned how limited and inaccessible birth choices are in the United States. I was moved by how many women were lacking options or the awareness of those options, also the support they needed to feel safe while birthing. When I was seventeen I made the decision that I was ready to be a doula, so I enrolled in a five week training through DONA international, and I haven't looked back since. I quickly jumped into setting up my business, building a website, networking with other birth workers in the area, and learning as much as I could to be the best doula possible for my future clients. Soon after my aunt asked if I would be her doula, and of course I said yes. After her birth I knew that being a doula was exactly what I was meant to do. Nurturing and supporting birthing and new mothers is my passion. Holding space for you to birth and bond with your baby is my goal. Providing assistance with all the choices and challenges that come along with the new baby transition, while being a quiet strength for you to lean on.

Doula Philosophy

I would describe my philosophy towards birth as open minded. I believe women are powerful creatures and that birth is primarily a natural event, and I also believe in the considered use of medical intervention and the compassionate use of epidurals. This means I support both mothers wishing for natural and those wishing for medicated births. I believe to some, birth is physical and raw, and to others it is spiritual and ecstatic. But for most, it's a little bit of both. I work with women with and without partners, and from a variety of backgrounds. I am honored to serve clients who make up a rich variety of families. My first and foremost goal is to understand your wants and needs, ensure you feel supported, and do everything in my power to ensure your birth is an empowering experience no matter the setting or scenario.

Fee Information

I hold the belief that every birthing person deserves support regardless of their ability to pay. Offering a sliding scale approach to my fees makes my services more accessible to folks who cannot afford to pay upwards of a thousand dollars for a doula. The foundation of the sliding scale approach is based on trust. I understand that in hiring me, you are trusting me to be apart of an incredibly intimate part of your life. Offering a sliding scale is one way I can express trust in my clients. I trust that they have thought about the value of my support and that they know their financial situation best, and can come to a decision that reflects both.
