Himaya Doula Services
My name is Asante but most people call me Sani. I am a mother to three sweet babies, a wife to one amazing man, and a doula serving in the DFW area.
I am first and foremost a homemaker but second to that comes my passion for women, babies, and childbirth. This sparked after the birth of my first child. I had such a great experience and it taught me that contrary to what society had told me my whole life, childbirth was not this awful thing to be afraid of and there was joy in it! My passion didn’t begin to thrive until after the home-birth with my son. I began to realize how blessed I had been to have such great support and the impact that it had made on my birth experiences. I wanted to be that kind of support for other women!
The name “Himaya” was given to me as a middle name by my mother after she almost lost me during pregnancy. It is swahili for “guardianship” which means “the position of protecting or defending something”. During labor women are innately delicate and vulnerable. We need support and protection because how our babies come into this world will stick with us whether we like it or not. It becomes a part of who we are. How I support a mom may look different from woman to woman but the goal is the same. As a doula I am always striving to help women protect the precious memories of their birthing experiences!
