Amy’s path as a support provider in birth began in early 2012, while she was pregnant with her first child, and before she even knew what the role of a Doula meant.
It was trial by fire, and after seeing & experiencing birth from the other side was both shocking and healing. Amy realized that her birth, which to that point had felt isolating and traumatic to her, were the cultural norm. After hearing several birth stories, similar or more having more interventions associated with birth:
“I was eager to help inform and guide away from the many misconceptions that typically come along with pregnancy & birth.”
Amy has currently finished with all her pre-requisite courses in pre-nursing, and is planning on fulfilling her goal of becoming a Nurse Midwife if the path leads her that way.
Amy has also been accepted to attend Five Branches University in Santa Cruz, California to earn a dual graduate degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture. Amy starts this program in the Spring of 2018.
With all of Amy’s education she has also completed her Birth & Post Partum Doula DONA training, received additional training and is Certified using the Rebozo. Amy also has trained along-side with various professional Midwives learning Optimal Fetal Positioning & using Essential Oils for encouragement Accupressure Massages. Amy also is a Lactation Counselor and can help trouble shoot early Breastfeeding issues.
Since becoming a Birth & Post Partum Doula, Amy has experienced a life affirming experience of working in the field of Birth Work after having a Homebirth in 2015.
“I realized that the birth process should not be something feared, and having a homebirth experience confirmed that regardless of where a person decides to give birth, that having the right support team is crucial to its overall experience! As a doula, I see my role as primarily providing important emotional, physical and spiritual preparation for birth. I am also a resource to the women and families I work with by helping navigate medical terminology, protocols and systems, while inspiring trust in a birthing person’s ability to give birth on their own terms. I believe that pregnancy, birth and the post partum period to be a sacred time to be cherished and protected. Perhaps most importantly, I embrace your vision for birth, and helping to foster the bonding of a family during the post partum period.”
